Monifieth Hillwalking and Rambling Club is a small, friendly club in the Dundee area and has been in existence since 1976. We are lucky to be surrounded by great countryside within easy reach and have a wealth of hillwalking and rambling routes to choose from. We have walked several sections of various long distance paths such as the Fife Coastal Path, Rob Roy Way, Cateran Trail and Jock's Road. We frequently visit the Angus glens and hills tackling the likes of Dreish and Mayar as well as the Glenshee Munros. Other favourites are the Sidlaw Hills, Lomond hills and highland Perthshire, especially forest walks around Dunkeld and Pitlochry in the autumn to enjoy the autumn colours. In summer we can venture further afield to the likes of Breadalbane, Deeside or the central Highlands. In winter, with the shorter days, our walks tend to be more local and lower level and include, for example, coastal walks in Angus or Fife.
As well as stunning views, there is an abundance of wildlife to spot: herds of deer, golden eagles and other raptors, for instance. And, because we walk all year round, we encounter all that the Scottish climate throws at us. Particularly spectacular are the glorious autumn colours in highland Perthshire, hillsides ablaze with bloooming purple heather, or deep virgin snow on a bright winter's day.
Our weekend programme of walks takes place fortnightly, alternating between Saturdays and Sundays and provides a variety of walks suitable for a wide range of abilities. In addition to the weekend programme we also have a series of fortnightly, shorter, more local walks on alternate Wednesdays or Thursdays. See our Weekend Walks and Weekday Walks pages for more details of upcoming walks.
We operate car sharing for transport from Monifieth to and from walk start points.
The club cannot accomodate dogs on our walks as our walks often involve passing through countryside with livestock or ground nesting birds.
Monifieth Hillwalking and Rambling Club is affiliated to the Mountaineering Scotland with club members being full members of Mountaineering Scotland with all the benefits outlined on their website. Our club recommends that members follow the Mountaineering Scotland recommendations on suitable clothing and equipment for hillwalking.
We can contacted by email at [email protected] or you can look at our How To Join page to find out about trial walks and joining the club.
